Safeguarding Children and Looked after Children Level 1

Aims:

Explore the indicators and types of child maltreatment and the relevance parent, carer and family factors can have on the wellbeing and development of a child. Examine what is meant by the term ‘looked after child,’ and what actions to take if you have concerns regarding child maltreatment.

Outcomes:

  • Recognise potential indicators of child maltreatment
  • Understand the different categories and types of child maltreatment
  • Demonstrate a willingness to listen to children and young people and to act on issues and concerns
  • Understand the relevance of parent, carer and family factors such as physical and mental ill-health, domestic abuse and substance and alcohol misuse on the wellbeing and development of a child or young person
  • Know what the term ‘Looked After Child’ means
  • Know what to do if you have concerns about child maltreatment
  • Know what to do if you don’t think your concerns are being taken seriously
  • Understand the importance of sharing information about a child or young person where there are safeguarding concerns
