Safeguarding Adults Level 3

Aims:

Explore the possible signs of abuse or neglect and what to do if you have a concern. Examine how to record concerns and gain a deeper understanding of relevant legislation related to safeguarding adult and self-neglect concerns. Explore what is Safeguarding Adult Review and understand how to appropriately contribute to these types of review.

Outcomes:

  • Be able to identify possible signs of abuse or neglect, using a person-centred approach
  • Know how to safeguard an adult at risk / where to refer a concern
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the issues surrounding suspicion of adult abuse, harm and neglect
  • Understand the importance of communicating effectively with adults at risk, particularly those with mental capacity issues, learning disabilities or specific communication needs
  • Know how to appropriately contribute to inter-agency assessments by gathering and sharing information
  • Feel confident to document / record concerns appropriately
  • Understand the significance of mental capacity issues in safeguarding enquiries
  • Understand the link between ‘deprivation of liberty’ and safeguarding
  • Recognise cases of self-neglect, understand the key issues involved where people self-neglect and know which procedures to follow
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the Section 42 enquiry process and the ‘Making Safeguarding Personal’ approach
  • Have a sound understanding to the importance of good safeguarding supervision and be able to able to recognise the personal impact of adult safeguarding
  • Know how to apply the lessons learnt from audits / Safeguarding Adults Reviews and other reviews to improve practice
  • Know how to appropriately contribute to Safeguarding Adults Reviews and other types of review
  • Know how to obtain support and help in situations where there are problems requiring further expertise and experience
