Malnutrition and Nutritional Screening

Aim:

This course aims to assist healthcare professionals to identify patients who are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. Ensure correct intervention and optimise patient outcomes through good nutritional care.  Reduce the financial impact of malnutrition on health and social care through appropriate identification and care planning​.

Outcomes: 

  • Understand and describe what malnutrition is and the possible consequences of malnutrition to individual patients health and the wider implications for the NHS and social care 
  • Carry out nutritional screening using the ‘Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool’ (MUST) 
  • Identify patients ‘at risk’ of malnutrition and take appropriate action 
  • Discuss the advice to be given to ‘at risk’ patients
