Aims / outcomes:

Define the legal framework, national and local policies relating to looked after children and their roles and responsibilities in promoting health and wellbeing.
Ensure that the delivery of healthcare is child focused, is sensitive to the looked after child or young person’s needs, wishes and feelings and promotes their participation.
Examine the role of the health professional in providing advice, support and guidance to carers of looked after children in any setting to enable them to work effectively.
Explain the specific health needs and additional vulnerabilities of the looked after child and how they may contribute to improving their health and life outcomes.
Describe inequalities in life chances that children who are looked after experience.
Recognise the importance of health representation or contribution to the looked after children Statutory Review.
Help strengthen multiagency working by health professionals to meet the health needs for looked after children.
